We use the deep canvassing model, which has been shown to change people’s minds about controversial issues. This model was developed in California, and later adopted by single payer advocates in California. This expertise was brought to Wisconsin through a virtual training.
If you’d like to join us for a canvass, contact us and we will help you find a canvass in your part of the state. Or, if there isn’t a canvass near you, it’s not hard to host your own canvass.
If you are signed up to canvass and have already canvassed with us, here is how to get ready.
If you are signed up for your first canvass, you can get ready by:
- Familiarize yourself with the ideas on the home page and the single payer FAQ. You are not expected to know everything, but if you’ve spent some time learning from the FAQ, it will help you out a lot when you knock on your first door.
- Listen to the prologue and act 1 of this podcast. This is the best example of deep canvassing in action we have found. Once you’ve heard an example of the model, it will be easier for you to learn.
On the day of the canvass, bring:
- A pen
- A clipboard if you have one. If not, bring a normal folder to keep everything organized and provide a hard surface to write on while canvassing.
Your canvass organizer will provide everything else you will need.
